It was fun while it lasted...which wasn't long enough!

Well, good and bad news about Lake Powell.
S, J, B and I (L) left on Thursday night and made it safely to Bullfrog, sleeping in the boat and truck bed overnight. Launching went well on Friday morning and we went over to the houseboat at Hall's Marina. After finding a way in (no one has ever given us a key!), we found everything in order and then put some chairs on a beach to save the spot over in Halls Creek Bay. All that was left was to wait for everyone else to arrive. By late afternoon, A, J, D, I, A and D were ready to be ferried over from Bullfrog and T, K and J were about an hour later. At last we headed out and beached in our little cove. It was a great set-up.

By nightfall we were all too tired for our bonfire after several of us wakeboarded. B is a master at wake jumping now!

Saturday we got the news that S WON the Utah Valley Marathon and he and M would stop at TRA and borrow T's generator because the one on the houseboat was not charging the batteries. As usual, houseboat problems became an issue and T spent some time working on the wiring. We decided it could not be fixed; hence, the need for the work generator. Just as we were leaving to have lunch in Lost Eden Canyon where a game of watermelon ball has become a tradition, we discovered a knocking/clicking sound coming from our ski boat engine. Since the boat had already had major problems and work done on it, the family consensus was to not push the engine beyond 2000 RPM's and go home on Sunday. We called and gave the bad news to M, S, J and A to not make the trip. We were all so disappointed but agreed with the decision and planned to get together Monday night for a picnic at home.

The evening ended well with a yummy chicken and peach cobbler dutch oven dinner and imaginative stories told round the campfire. N will forever be famous for his story about J, the water monkey. And A's retelling of N, I, K and Jaws Uncle Bs swimming adventure involving 400 headed dragons, princess, blue fairies, serpents and magic wands was priceless. The Jiffy Pop popcorn was devoured and s-mores were delicious. There is never a night sleeping under the stars that we don't see "shooting stars" and satellites traveling in the diamond sky!

(Success for D!)

(K enjoying the serenity)

(I think Jwas scratching his head about the Stephen King book he was reading!)

(The only moment A had alone the whole trip!)

(I, N and K enjoying the "island")

(A the Fish)

(Nana, the captive as A does her hair)

Leaving on Sunday was difficult with problems with both houseboat engines, but eventually we ran the houseboat ashore by the Bullfrog boat launch and unloaded. T, B and I stayed behind to clean the houseboat, heat weld penetration areas on the houseboat roof, and pull the ski boat out. Everyone arrived safely home and we look forward to better times on the Lake Powell, hopefully with two new houseboat engines next season.

I will post pictures on Wednesday and hope you A's and H's and L's and W's and E's will also post some on this blog. Call me for info/passwords/etc.
