It's over! Dancing with the Faculty is over! And my feet hurt, but I didn't GET hurt~!
Here are some pictures of me doing the Mambo after about 50 hours of even knowing I would be doing this. I think I might have spent 6-8 hours in practice since Wednesday , most of it at home, squinting at a little i-pod screen at a video of the dance but NO music only counting, maybe four or five with one of three partners that had time to work with me. With the actual partner, probably three. I didn't get my music until noon on Friday, the day of the show!! I'm not sure I've been this nervous since....Daughter A was in the Highland Jr. Miss Pageant.
Once I put on that flouncy costume, it was easy to smile and I'm a believer that if you mess up, smile your way out of it. I smiled ALOT!
My partner, Troy, was amazing. Not only is he an excellent dancer, he was very patient. I couldn't have done it without him. He was brave to take on a new partner so late in the game.
There was quite a bit of shimmying in this number that helped cover up my mistakes. The shimmying didn't even get added until Friday at noon. It really helped with crowd appeal. At the end one of the judges called me the Mambo Queen!
Originally the boys lifted me up horizontal to the floor, and I had to arch my back and smile at the audience with my head facing the audience, my feet the back of the stage, sort of upside down and backwards. But when they tried the lift at the dress rehearsal just before the show, one of the boys lifted me differently and it really hurt the shoulder I had surgery on in September. So this lift was only practiced once before the show!!! I think this one looks okay but wish I could have done the other. Dumb shoulder - cortizone shot on Monday.
We got THIRD out of six! Respectable and a testament to sticking to it even when things get tough!
I deserve a good night's sleep. ZZZzZzzzZZZZZzzzzzz.....
Good Job Mom
