Day Two

Monday was a LAZY day here in paradise.  We woke early, as noted in the previous blog, but eventually made it down the stairs to the beach below.

The cute little bungalow.  Those are our sliding doors on the right.

The view from the stairs to the south
 And to the north
This is a three unit complex.  The yellow one on the left sleeps 8, then there is a small studio in the middle and our unit has two bedrooms on the right.
There is a reef several yards from our beach which creates calm and shallow water on our beach.  Perfect for a family (hint hint?)
We took a walk up the short beach and amongst all the human prints were these little, tiny ones, about 2.5" long.  What do you think they are?
In honor of grandaughter, A, I decided each animal needed to be named. This is a small hermit crab we named Hazel.  Arthur lives down the beach from Hazel.  (No, I don't want to grow up!)
The house lizard we named Critter.
About 3 PM we decided to do something!  This is the view from the long driveway coming in from Kamehameha Highway.  Our car and unit are on the left.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is right across the street.
We drove north on the highway and got what we were looking for.  HUGE waves!  During the winter many surfing competitions are held here because of the way the waves build.

Most of the beaches had these red flags signifying that there should be no swimming.  The swells here were well over 12 feet.
Watch this sequence as some huge waves hit the rocks behind Hubby.

I think I was brave to sit here!
We drove north all the way to Haleiwa - a sleepy little town right where Kamehameha Highway turns south toward the pineapple plantation.  We chose Cholo's, a Mexican restaurant that had been recommended to us by Coach Lewis from LP and his wife.  I had a fish burrito and Hubby had fish tacos.  They were good meals and I couldn't eat it all.
The following pictures were taken at Sunset Beach, a beautiful place to enjoy the end of the day.  Notice the power that Hubby and I have received just because we have left the dreary real world behind and flown away to this magical world here.  We can literally cause the sun to rise and set!

 haha!

We stopped at the local Foodmart where Hubby found his all-important macadamia nuts and shrimp so that he can go out and catch some big ones today.  (He is actually making that effort right now.)  More updates tomorrow!

  1. What does the hint hint mean? Are you secretly planning a trip to take the family next winter? I hope Dad catches some fish! Jacob
