Sick of the Snide Put-downs
I'm SICK of some people who put you down for staying home to nurture and raise your kids full time and tell you this isn't a "real job."
So I guess I "never worked a day in my life" unless I leave my kids at a daycare and get a paycheck? So what was I doing all those 24 hour days living on a budget, making every meal from scratch, doing homework with 6 children, cleaning up the home, working in the yard, laundry, laundry, laundry...? THAT WASN'T REAL WORK?
I managed on a budget. I had to find ways to dress the kids well on a budget. I learned to sew, to fix, to adjust. I didn't hire someone to wash my windows; I did it myself. The kids learned to do chores. Kids working is A GOOD THING! We went camping instead of to the amusement park. We got by on one income. It IS POSSIBLE TO GET BY ON ONE INCOME if you budget and accept that you don't every new gadget or shoe! I am very aware of how hard life is. I didn't have to leave my home to learn about economics or trials.
I've shrugged off this put-down for years and it always comes from women who "work." Well, I WORKED, TOO! And I did a pretty dang good job of it! Bless those people who do not have a choice. You deserve my respect and help.
I did have a choice and the choice I made to stay at a job that gave me smiles and hugs instead of money in a bank should be respected, not put down!
