Grammy's Here!

Grammy arrived June 9th!  We went straight over to J's house for a barbecue and Grammy met baby "I" for the first time.  He took right to her!

 Grammy and "I"
Daughter K, grandson J (the little Cougar) with Grammy
For some reason every grandkid that puts on this BYU helmet looks AWESOME in it!  Go, M!
The next day the whole clan came over for dinner.  M showed up a little early and played "trucks" with Grammy.
Grammy (my mom) had a fall several weeks ago on an icy/snowy deck stairway.  She didn't realize it at first, but she received two compression fractures in her back.  This necessitated a back brace to be worn day and night.  She doesn't really like it much (to say the least) but she has a great attitude about it.  She's determined to avoid back surgery.  I'm proud of her.

Me making Zweiback.  This is an old Mennonite version of rolls.  There is a base piece and a little cap on the top.  They're not as easy to make as they look.  My dad's mom was an expert at it and I am happy to keep the tradition going.
All the grandkids love their great grandmother from California.  Here she is telling the story of her fall.
I'm including many pictures of us all making "veranika."  It seems every culture has a turnover, empanada or "veranika."  This Mennonite version has cheese or cherries inside.  Everyone took a turn rolling out the dough, cutting, filling, pinching, boiling or frying.
The kitchen was covered with flour when we were done.  I loved it!

It has been such a treat to work alongside my mom.

It's no wonder my ancestors had high cholesterol and heart disease.  We used lots of cream and served the Veranika with fried ham!
 They were THIS GOOD!

We topped it off with yummy chocolate cake.  Happy June Birthday, A!
