After the game and as the sun was dropping behind the western range quickly, we searched and searched for 3 year old N and his big sister, A, who had been playing on the playground. We were all getting quite worried as we called their names and looked and looked. They were finally discovered, trying to climb the retaining wall of boulders and had gotten stuck. I told A that she almost caused her old Nana to have a heart attack and she thought that was very funny!
I and A came home with me and on the way home begged and begged for me to do my witch laugh, which sounds like the laugh of the witch from The Wizard of Oz. They never tire of me sounding so wicked, but doing it takes a lot of air and I get tired and winded pretty easily. While we waited at a red light, "I" counted down 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 -1 and the light turned green. I told her she was the real witch because she made the light change. At the next light she did it again. Then A got competitive and told me that she was a wizard. She could make lightening! Once or twice within a few seconds of her prediction there would be a flash. The girls giggled and giggled and we had a great time just driving home from the soccer game. They begged to stay over, but I had to resist because I was exhausted from all the laughing and knew they would want popcorn, a drink of water, some milk, etc. etc. etc.!
What a joy it is to be a grandparent (and it reminds me of how much energy it must have taken to be the parents of little children!)
