T, B and I left after the high school's football game (they won!) on Friday night and traveled down to southern Utah to watch son-in-law, S, run the St. George Marathon. It never ceases to amaze me how people can run 26.2 miles and somehow smile through it, then do it again and again and again. The idea of my body using it's own muscle fibers for food, just seems WRONG! But I have tremendous admiration for the people who do it and at the top of my admiration list is S. Somehow through the life-changing summer, he still found time to put hundreds of miles on his shoes while finding, buying and moving into a new house, then days later assisting our sweet daughter, M, through what could have been a very tragic experience but instead resulted in the birth of cute little Baby S. Two and a half months later, after many nights of not-enough-sleep, and all these life stresses, he still not only completes a marathon and finishes third out of 7600+ runners from all over the world, he does it with the grace and humility that has become his trademark. If he were my own son, I couldn't have felt more proud or loved him more, not for the win, but for the man that he is under stress, relaxation or any other experience he finds himself in. S, you really are our Super Man! Here are some pictures of the day -
I think he looks mighty fine in his cap!
Massage therapists are a wonderful reward.
After the race, the runners get to choose from a bunch of yummy food. Must taste great!
When he took off his socks after sitting down, he wasn't surprised to see that two toes had blisters that had broken and were bleeding.
On his right foot, he nonchalantly noticed that he would be losing a nail on his second toe! How can anyone run with that happening? Ouch!
Baby S slept through most of it!
Time - 2 hours, 25 minutes, 52 seconds. Not his best time, but DARN good!
Supportive wife and daughter watching as awards are presented later that day at around noon.
Among S's awards were two nights for two at a resort at Zion's National Park, a pair of shoes (which he generously helped his father in law choose and keep!), a watch, $ for his trip to St. George for next year's marathon, luggage, clock, watch and more.
I hope someday Baby S realizes what a Super Dad she has!
