A very long time ago in a state far, far away, the author would visit the San Jose Motor Speedway or the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds with her brother and parents. We would watch modified sprint cars race round and round on a 1/4 mile track. Brother and I would choose a car and root for it, having virtual races with each other. We didn't do it much, but it was always so much fun.
Last weekend son J, the Cougar and his two boys ages 4 and 2, came with Hubby and me to the speedway 40 minutes from our house. We got a great deal on admission, were there at 6:30 and didn't leave till it was over at 10. We had a blast!

We only spent $5 each to get in and at least that much more on the food!
This was the truck race. They had qualifying heats of sprint cars, a truck race and a 125 lap main event. That was followed by the eagerly awaited...
...train race. This is three cars hooked together. The car in front has a driver with an accelerator but no brake, an empty car in the middle, and the third car has a brake but no accelerator. To make it even more crazy, they race in a figure 8! At the end of the last lap one "train" intentionally crashed into another "train," preventing him from passing into first place and another train won. The driver of the train that should have passed and won got out of his car, walked over to the one that crashed into him and punched the guy 6 times! Then he took off his helmet and ranted and raved till the security came over. It was a very exciting end to a fun night!
