This ugly sucka is actually about 5 inches long and very dead! Note the nasty pinchers on his tail end and that it's almost as long as my hand. If he showed up under your pillow, what would YOU do? As we were settling in for the night our 3rd night here, Hubby reached down to move his pillow as he was climbing into bed and immediately jerked back in horror. He said, "Ahh centipede!" and started jumping around. What happened next is not what I would have done. He climbed into bed without making sure it was shoved out the nearby patio door. I was already almost in slumberland and didn't realize he didn't kill it. Later he jumped out of bed again because it was crawling around by his FEET! Again he was too tired to be sure it was dead. Again, I had no idea it was this BIG and scary and alive. The next day I was straightening some of our clothes that were sitting on the dresser and who should scare the livin daylights outta me but that bad bug who fell out of the clothes and started wiggling over to my bare feet! No way was he going to survive a run-in with me! Between the two of us horrified humans and with me holding the broom which was trapping the wiggly thing, and Hubby manning a shoe (a very deadly weapon), we disposed of the centipede. His body is now food for the ants on the patio. Good riddance.
Remember those fish Hubby caught? Fresh fish is best served that very day and since when you're in Hawaii calories don't count, we deep fried them.
Seriously delicious!
These turtles are protected in Hawaii. It is against the law to bother them in any way. They must be able to read the law because it's not uncommon on the North Shore of Oahu to find them taking naps on the beach.
This guy was having a very nice nap.
I've been really disappointed with the waves, which have not been very big. We keep hoping the next day will be better and we can see the Pipe Pro Surf Competition. We leave Saturday, but they say the big waves will be here tomorrow and we don't fly out till late at night. We'll make one more trip to see. I'm trying very hard to "Hang Loose."
Hawaiian Shave Ice is very much better when you get it in Hawaii. No JOKE! This was vanilla and coconut and yummy. How often do you see Hubby smile that big?
