"D" Day!

James 5: 14 - 15 says "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."

I believe in the Priesthood of God - The priesthood is the eternal power and authority of God. Through the priesthood God created and governs the heavens and the earth. Through this power He redeems and exalts His children, bringing to pass “the immortality and eternal life of man."

Male members of my church may begin their priesthood service when they reach the age of 12. They begin by holding the Aaronic Priesthood, and they later may qualify to have the Melchizedek Priesthood conferred on them. At different stages in their lives and as they prepare themselves to receive different responsibilities, they hold different offices in the priesthood, such as deacon, teacher, or priest in the Aaronic Priesthood and elder or high priest in the Melchizedek Priesthood.
For a male member of the Church to hold the priesthood, an authorized priesthood holder must confer it on him and ordain him to an office in that priesthood.

Last Sunday our eldest grandson, D,  received this power.  The men in this picture also hold the priesthood and ordained D.  D is a wonderful 12 year old and a great example of what you'd love to have in a son or grandson.  He is fun, smart, talented, motivated, responsible and most of all, kind.  Who wouldn't want a young man like this preparing to become a husband, father, employee, etc. in these tough times?
In this picture are D's very proud dad, both of his grandfathers, uncles, birth grandfather and friend outside of the church where he was just ordained to he office of Deacon.

Following the ordination we all went to D's house and had a nice meal.  Hubby and I gave D our gift, which was pretty special.
Most of the time D has this cheerful smile on his face.
 He seems to like it!
He definitely likes it!
Inside the shadow box is a knife, sheath, picture and description.  This knife was owned by Hubby's father.  It was purchased in Papua New Guinea in 1947 when Grandad was in the Army Air Force.  D has a knife collection and when Hubby's brother was visiting at Christmas time he mentioned that he thought this knife was in an old bureau that we had moved from our old house to the new one but never cleaned out.  We found the knife and decided it would make a very special gift.

D is the best grandson a Nana could ask for.  I am eternally grateful to his birth parents for knowing he needed to be in the Anderson family and for A and J for raising such a terrific boy.
