I don't run too much these days because I have decided I don't want to injure my knees anymore. It's been a hard choice for me. I really do love the high that running has brought me, but after my right knee hurt so bad last spring for months after doing nothing to it but run, I got scared.
Last May I went to a new orthopedic surgeon and expected he would tell me that I needed another surgery on it. I DO NOT want another surgery. He gave me a new combination of cortisone and other medicines shot and the knee has been good ever since! It was like a miracle. However, I do occasionally get aches and pains in my knees and have decided to switch from running to walking.
I never want to have a knee replacement (a couple of my friends have had those), so instead I take our cute little dog, Shadow, walking. We go briskly and she, naturally, runs till she's worn out. A couple of weeks ago I took Shadow out for a walk along a path nearby. She loves the stream that runs close by the path and the wide open spaces by a park. On the way back I was surprised when I looked and saw that she was carrying a rawhide bone. She must have found it along the path. She kept it in her mouth for about 1/8 mile, all the way up to the truck. When I opened the door she hopped in with it and kept it in her mouth when she stuck her head out the window. I thought it was so funny I took pictures!
I love this little dog. She's everything you'd want in woman's best friend!
I'm not sure where that bone is now. She never seems to like to chew on them, just own them! It's probably buried in the living room couch cushions somewhere!
